Summer Leadership Institute Concludes

Over 400 district leaders participated in the final portion of the Summer Leadership Institute. The Institute entitled, Accountable School Communities: Ensuring Increased Achievement for ALL Students was held at the Doubletree Hotel.

A recent article by Scott Waldman of the Times Union called into question just how difficult the New York State Regents exams are.


He states these exams may be the easiest exams students take all year. Like the grades 3-8 ELA and math exams the regents exam redesign is a part of New York States reform initiative.

SCSD New Teacher/Unit 1 New Hire Orientation begins Thursday, Aug 26 at Lincoln MS from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

Mandatory Professional Development for all new hires continues at the Syracuse Teacher Center on Aug. 27 and Aug. 30 from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM.

Orientation to the District continues on August 31 and September 1 from 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM at the Teacher Center.

Transportation Information Letters Mailed Home August 30th

The Transportation Department will be mailing home the transportation information letters to all families beginning Monday, August 30, 2010. These letters will have your students designated bus stop, route and pick up and drop off times.   

Fowler Graduate and Up and Coming Jazz Star Returns to Syracuse

1999 Fowler High School graduate Jackiem Joyner returned to Syracuse and took part in the Jazz in the City series. Jackiem first made a cameo appearance to open the Jazz in the City series and then came back for a full show on his own the following week.

Building Men UTC Summer Program Wraps Up

The Syracuse City School District’s Building Men program piloted a summer program entitled Building Foundations at Levy School.  Building Foundations was incorporated into the Urban Teacher Calendar (UTC) at Levy for the summer.

Syracuse City School District Fine Arts Coordinator Named NYSTEA Administrator of the Year

The New York State Theatre Education Association (NYSTEA) has named Carol Terry, Syracuse City School District Fine Arts Coordinator, as its 2010 Administrator of the Year. Ms. Terry was nominated for this prestigious award by two theatre arts teachers and a parent from the school district.
