Cornell University Hosts Students for Expanding Your Horizons Program

Aspiring 9th grade female scientists and mathematicians from Nottingham High School attended Cornell University’s Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) program. The program is designed to motivate young women in the fields of science and mathematics.

The students each participated in three workshops organized by Cornell students and faculty and visited two labs. They had 35 different workshops to choose from that ranged from Breaking the Incan Code, and the Secret to Winning Games to This is Rocket Science. In addition to stimulating the participant’s interest in math and science through these hands-on activities, EYH introduces the students to female scientist role models, and fosters awareness of opportunities in math and science-related careers. The relationships and collaboration that is developed between the Cornell students and faculty and the SCSD students and teachers is remarkable.

Thank you to this year’s chaperones and organizers: Nottingham teachers Mr. Joseph Dhara, Mr. Tom Little and Mr. Don Little.
