Cornell University Hosts Students for Expanding Your Horizons Program

Aspiring 9th grade female scientists and mathematicians from Nottingham High School attended Cornell University’s Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) program. The program is designed to motivate young women in the fields of science and mathematics.
 

Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority Recognizes Youth Achievement Award Winners

The Xi Chapter of the Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority held its 41th Annual Youth Achievement Luncheon at Drumlins Country Club. Lambda Kappa Mu is a national organization of business and professional women whose mission is to provide community service and support, encourage scholarly pursuits and empower its members to address societal issues. 
 

Expeditionary Learning Middle School Students Create "Fedge" for Onondaga Creek

During the We Shape Our World Expedition, Expeditionary Learning Middle Schools 7th and 8th grade students partnered with SUNY ESF and the Onondaga Lake Partnership. Together they implemented part of the revitalization plan put together by the citizens and scientists of Syracuse for the Onondaga Creek corridor. 

Ed Smith Partners With the USDA On Plant Pollinator Garden

Students, staff, parents and community members from Ed Smith have partnered with the United States Department of Agriculture National Resources Conservation Service, Rural Development and the Farm Services Agency to plant a native plant pollinator garden. The USDA is recognizing National Pollinator Week with the installation of this new pollinator garden at the section of the Morningside Cultural Trail right behind Ed Smith

OCRRA awarded the Expeditionary Learning Middle School (ELMS), the 2010 Mastri Recycling Excellence Award.

STEM and SECME Rocket Club Teams Take Home Awards

The Syracuse City School District and the individual school STEM and SECME clubs represented themselves very well at the SECME Rocket Team Challenge. The 1st and 4th place winners in the high school division went to Henninger and Nottingham respectively.

Teachers Volunteer at TNT Community Project


Syracuse City School District teachers Mark Krause (Grant Middle School) and Amy Krause (Hughes School) volunteered at the recent Court-Woodlawn TNT community project. The project created a gateway garden to the Court-Woodlawn section of Syracuse.

 

NSBE Meeting Planned for Current and Future Members

The Syracuse City School District's National Society of Black Engineers will be holding a meeting for all current members and any student who is interested in joining. The meeting will be at Danforth Middle School on Saturday, June 12th at 12:00 PM. 
 
This meeting is extremely important for the planning of summer camp and the upcoming school year.
