Deadline Approaching for Ed Foundation's Go Green Grant Applications

The deadline to apply for the Go Green Grants from the Syracuse City School District Educational Foundation is fast approaching. All grant applications must be postmarked no later than the August 13, 2010 in order to be considered for funding. Applications must be mailed to: SCSD Educational Foundation, 9827 Carousel Center Dr.

Cornell University Hosts Students for Expanding Your Horizons Program

Aspiring 9th grade female scientists and mathematicians from Nottingham High School attended Cornell University’s Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) program. The program is designed to motivate young women in the fields of science and mathematics.

Ed Smith Partners With the USDA On Plant Pollinator Garden

Students, staff, parents and community members from Ed Smith have partnered with the United States Department of Agriculture National Resources Conservation Service, Rural Development and the Farm Services Agency to plant a native plant pollinator garden. The USDA is recognizing National Pollinator Week with the installation of this new pollinator garden at the section of the Morningside Cultural Trail right behind Ed Smith

Dr. King Science Teacher Chosen for Honeywell Space Camp

Ms. Patty Burns, 4th grade teacher at Dr. King Elementary School has recently been chosen to attend the Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy program. Ms. Burns is one of 220 teachers from across 17 countries and 44 states who will attend the program.

 

High School Students Visit ESF Ranger School

Students from Fowler High School and other City high schools attended the ESF Ranger School at Lake Wanakena for a weekend visit. The trip presented the students with some insight into the two year Associates Program offered through SUNY ESF

 

Grant Middle School 6th Graders Celebrate Space Day


Lockheed Martin teamed with the Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) to share the excitement of space exploration with more than 140 6th grade students from Grant Middle School in Syracuse.

SCSD Chosen as "Green of the Crop" Winner

The Syracuse City School District recently was honored with the first "Green of the Crop" award in the Educational and Community Organization category.  The SCSD and it's "Go Green" team were recognized for their many green efforts including the rain garden at Henninger, the composting projects at Fowler and Seymour and the overall district wide recycling program.
