Football Season Kicks Off This Weekend

Nottingham and Fowler Square off in an intense football gameThe 2010-11 high school football season gets underway this weekend with all five SCSD teams in action.  We have a video preview of each team online as well as the team rosters and schedules.

JSCB Architectural Drawings

The JSCB project architects presented the Board of Education with the architectural drawings for the renovations of the Institute of Technology, Dr. Weeks, HW Smith and Fowler.  The final plans need to be submitted to the New York State Department of Education for final approval.  Construction is slated to take place starting in the winter.  The drawings for Fowler HS can be viewed here (pdf).

Fowler Student Named Engineering Pipeline Scholar

Abrar Atiya Aljiboury, a Fowler High School student, is among 20 scholars from Syracuse-area schools who participated in the competitive “Engineering Pipeline Program” at National Grid, the centerpiece of the company’s global “Engineering Our Future” initiative designed to inspire youth and attract and develop engineers for tomorrow’s workforce. Only 50 students across National Grid’s U.S.

Fowler Graduate and Up and Coming Jazz Star Returns to Syracuse

1999 Fowler High School graduate Jackiem Joyner returned to Syracuse and took part in the Jazz in the City series. Jackiem first made a cameo appearance to open the Jazz in the City series and then came back for a full show on his own the following week.

August Commencement Date Announced

The Syracuse City School Districts August Commencement will be held on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 7:00 PM. The ceremony will take place in the Crouse-Hinds Theatre at the Civic Center. Eligible students from Corcoran, Fowler, Henninger and Nottingham will be participating in the ceremony. Doors will open for family and friends at 6:00 PM.  

 

Fowler High School Announces Academic Awards

Fowler High School recently recognized the top 10 students of the 2010 graduating class, the top 10 students in grades 9-11 and the top senior in each content area at their annual Academic Awards. All of these students have worked extremely hard throughout the year and are deserving of the recognition they received.

Each year scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors who exemplify the characteristics and high level of academic achievement that we seek for all of our students. This year’s winners are perfect examples of that and are role models for those who will come after them.
 

Fowler Recognizes Student Athletes

Fowler High School recognized the academic and athletic achievements of their student athletes at the annual awards banquet.  All of the student athletes honored have not only shined in their respective sports but have been examples in the classroom and the community.  

Fowler Music Teacher Honored by Syracuse Symphony Orchestra

Ms. Susan Owens, Fowler High School Music Teacher, has received the 2010 Syracuse Symphony Orchestra Musician's Awards for Outstanding Music Educators - Vocal Music - Chorus. 

 

District High School Students Visit Onondaga Lake

An exciting new program was offered to students in the SCSD this year called "Aquatic Macroinvertebrates As a Tool for Educating Area High School Students about Onondaga Lake". The students learned about the basic ecology of Onondaga Lake and it’s aquatic insect inhabitants through an interactive lesson using living insects. They also learned how abiotic factors influence the biota, and how human activities have structured the insect community of Onondaga Lake.
