About the District

District Demographics

The Syracuse City School District is one of the largest in the state of New York including over 19,000 students in K-12 grades and an additional 1,300 in Pre-Kindergarten. The district’s facilities include: five High Schools, six Middle Schools, six K-8 Schools, fourteen Elementary Schools, and four Alternative Schools/Programs to help students with diverse needs.

The diverse ethnic background of our students contributes to the unique nature of the Syracuse City School District. The student population is: 53% Black, 28% White, 12% Hispanic, 6% Asian, and 1% Native American/Alaskan creating a district whose educational setting is one of a kind in the nation.
