Grant Middle School science teacher Rob Woolery has been chosen by the Technology Alliance of Central New York (TACNY) as an outstanding teacher of 2015.

As a Southeastern Consortium for Minorities in Engineering (SECME) advisor at Grant, Mr. Woolery says the award is greatly appreciated, but stresses that what really keeps him motivated is his students.  “I do all of my after school clubs and activities so that the kids see me in a different light and also so that I can see them in a different light, he explains. “It is not always about making engineers; it is more about making kids love STEM in whatever capacity they can handle. They learn about colleges, careers, public speaking, banquet etiquette, team building, and problem solving. Most of all, they have fun and enjoy the experience, which brings them back year after year. The award is nice to have, but to see the smiles and the determination on the kids’ faces even when they fail is something I never forget.”

Rob was honored at the 27th annual TACNY Outstanding Teacher Awards banquet, where he received a plaque and an honorarium of $1,000. He was recognized as one of five Central New York teachers who excels in science, technology, engineering and math education.

Thank you, Rob, for your dedication to STEM students at Grant Middle School!
