Superintendent's Message to Staff 9/16/16

Good afternoon.

With the first full week of school coming to a close, I want to let you know about a new district-wide initiative.  This year we are starting a chronic absenteeism reduction initiative and your support of this initiative is critical to its success.  “Every Child, Every Day” is being rolled out to families across the district beginning with a letter from me sent home today to every family.  You should see posters in your school buildings next week and we will be using twitter and facebook to help spread the word as well.  The more schools participate in this initiative and promote it within your respective school communities with parents, staff and students, the more impactful it will be!  Students who attend school regularly are more likely to have success.

Today we announced a new partnership with Onondaga Community College (OCC).  OCC has adopted McKinley-Brighton Elementary and will be working with and supporting our students this year.  College representatives and students will visit McKinley-Brighton to help students in a variety of ways by working on arts and creative activities, conducting STEM demonstrations and engaging in student leadership activities. There will also be field trips to the OCC campus for students to enjoy and learn from.  A special thank you to Dr. Carbill and Provost Willis from OCC for their leadership and commitment to our students and families.

Have a great weekend!
