Superintendent's Message to Staff - September 30

With the first month of school coming to a close I want to thank all of you for helping to ensure that the 2016-17 school year started off on the right foot.  Our opening of schools went great and since September 7th I have been to every school building and program in the district.  I am extremely pleased with what I have seen in the classrooms I have visited and look forward to continuing to be out in our school buildings throughout the coming months.

This year we registered 2,078 students in grades PreK-12, including 354 English as a New Language (ENL) students prior to the start of the school year.  In less than a month we have welcomed an additional 236 students, and tested and placed an additional 101 ENL students.  To date, this represents an increase of more than 700 students over last year’s districtwide enrollment.

I just want to take the time to thank you again for receiving our students with open arms, as we continue to enroll them and help to ensure that they receive the academic instruction and social supports necessary to be successful both inside and outside of the classroom.  I know it is not easy to transition students into your schools and classrooms and I appreciate all that you do to make everyone feel welcome and get caught up academically.

Have a great weekend!

Jaime
