Bern Nadette Stanis, the actress who played Thelma on the hit television comedy series “Good Times’’ spoke to students at Fowler High School about overcoming obstacles and preparing for the future. Stanis gave a presentation that touched on the importance of self-esteem and confidence and spent the day visiting classrooms and interacting with students, faculty and staff at Fowler.  

Stanis has continued to act, and has appeared on a number of sitcoms and in movies. She is the author of two books and a collection of poetry.

Estevan Morales, a 5th grade student at Delaware Academy, is the Northeast regional champion in this year’s 2013 Wrestlemania Reading Challenge.

Estevan, who entered the contest through the Mundy Branch Library, had to write a letter to his favorite World Wrestling Entertainment wrestler and convince him to read a book. He wrote to wrestler John Cena, who agreed to read one of the books from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

Students at Nottingham High School will take the stage this weekend for their spring musical.

“Fame’’ tells the story of several students who attend the High School of Performing Arts in New York City, among them fame-obsessed Carmen, ambitious actress Serena, wisecracking comedian Joe, quiet, saintly violinist Schlomo, and "talented but dyslexic" dancer Tyrone.

The Corcoran girls basketball team will be the first ever Syracuse City School District girls team to play on Jim Boeheim Court in the Carrier Dome when they take on defending State Champion C-NS in the Section III Championship game on Thursday, February 28 at 8:30 PM.

Students from LeMoyne School showed off their intellectual gifts and talents at the school’s semi-annual Say Yes to Education (SYTE) Student Showcase.

Students from Nottingham High School took the top prize at the Central New York VEX Robotics competition at the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse.

Team “Chico-Bot’’ won the Excellence Award and earned the right to compete in April with teams from all over the world at the VEX Robotics Competition Worldwide Championship in Anaheim, Calif.  Bryan English, a technology teacher at Nottingham, won the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Students from Nottingham High School who participated in Mrs. Benedetto’s Cultural Voices class spent some time with their pen pals at Ed Smith – who are third-graders in Mrs. Fiacchi’s class.
