Smaller Learning Community Information
Smaller Learning Communities at Each High School
It is our goal and expectation in the Syracuse City School District that every child who is enrolled in our schools will be prepared to enroll in the college of their choice and ready to compete in the complete 21st century job market.
At Henninger and Nottingham High School:
With this in mind, we randomly place ninth grade students into our high school academies. Each academy provides a balance of male and female students, and students from all socioeconomic and ethnic groups. This is what makes our school district strong and gives our city it’s culturally richness. At the end of tenth grade, once students have been fully exposed to the academy choices offered here, they can make an informed decision on which academy they would like to be placed.
At Corcoran and Fowler High School:
With this in mind, all ninth grade students are enrolled in the Ninth Grade Success Academy. At the end of ninth grade, after students have completed the career interest inventory on Naviance, they can make an informed decision on which academy they would like to be placed. At the end of tenth grade, students can switch academy if the academy is not meeting their academic/career needs.
