Wilquan Burke will attend St. Lawrence University after high school. He plans to major in sociology. What is the one thing that helped you succeed in school? Participating in three sports – basketball, football and track. Who is your most memorable teacher and why? Mr. Lutwin because he was by my side all through my times of depression and when I needed the most help. What one word would your friends use to describe you? Enthusiastic What accomplishment are you most proud of? Making a change after my freshman year and now being able to go to college. What is your favorite food? Pizza What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now? I hope to have a career to be proud of and have a family to support and love. Who is your hero and why? Mr. and Mrs. Sweeney because they gave and showed me the love a child was supposed to get. What will you miss most about high school? The kindness and acceptance from the teachers that made me feel like a son and a friend. What advice would you give underclassmen? Take advantage of the opportunities you have at school. |
Zoe O’Leary is the school’s valedictorian. She will attend Syracuse University in the fall. What is the one thing that helped you succeed in school? Participating in all my activities because they gave me different experiences and helped me mature but also helped me enjoy high school. Who is your most memorable teacher and why? My most memorable teacher was my 11th grade AP U.S. History teacher because he made me want to learn and he pushed me to be better. He cared whether or not I did well. Plus, I heard he was a mean teacher but I was glad to see people were wrong. What accomplishment are you most proud of? Playing a leading role, Jasmine, in the dual-language version of the musical “Aladdin.’’ What is your favorite food? Apples, not only by themselves but I like what apples make – apple pie, apple cider and my apple streusel cake. What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now? I hope to have a Master’s degree or more. I hope to have seen at least some of the world. I’d like to have already figured out what I want to do with my life. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? I tend to be shy and less outgoing than I’d like to be. What will you miss most about high school? I’ll miss the comfort that high school provides with my friends and the structure and general studies we have to take because we are on our own once we graduate. What advice would you give underclassmen? Don’t think high school is a joke. It is the stepping stone to the rest of your life. Don’t blow off studying for Regents, SATs and other tests. High school is what you make it and I know I had a good time. |
Tuyen Huynh will attend the University at Buffalo in the fall. What is one thing that helped you succeed in school? I put effort into my work. Who is your most memorable teacher and why? Mr. Woolery because he is a funny and dedicated teacher. He took me to California for the VEX Robotics Competition. What one word would your friends use to describe you? Funny What accomplishment are you most proud of? Participating in the VEX Robotics Competition. What is your favorite food? Fried rice What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now? I hope to have a stable job. Who is your hero and why? I don’t really have one. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? Not to be as lazy as I am at this moment. What will you miss most about high school? Making happy memories. |

Carlos M. Garcia will attend Cazenovia College. What is the one thing that helped you succeed in school? The one thing that helped me to succeed at school was that I always stayed on top of my work and worked hard. What accomplishment are you most proud of? The accomplishment I am most proud of was that I learned English in a short period of time. That was very important to me. What is your favorite food? Mango What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now? I hope that 10 years from now I will be a fashion designer. I also want to help people that need help. Who is your hero and why? My hero is my mom. The reason is because she raised me and my brother and sister alone and never gave up. I’m so proud of my mother, Clara. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? The one thing that I would change about myself would be to be more realistic and understand that all the rules apply to me too. What will you miss most about high school? The thing that I will miss about high school will be all of my teachers that helped me out and my friends. What advice would you give underclassmen? My advice for the underclassmen would be to never give up and to be happy that they have the opportunity to get an education because there are many people that wish to have that education. So, they should take advantage. |
What is the one thing that helped you succeed in school? One thing that helped me succeed in school is everything around me, the teachers, family, friends and everyone else I knew. Who is your most memorable teacher and why? All the teachers were memorable, but, if I had to pick one it would be Mr. Woolery, because I see a lot of students go to him for advice and help with problems. What one word would your friends use to describe you? Smart What is your favorite food? Homemade African food What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now? In 10 years I hope to be in a career as a history or science teacher. Who is your hero and why? My hero is my grandmother because all she did for us in the past. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I wouldn’t change a lot, but, I would change the way I view the world around me. What will you miss most about high school? I will miss everything about high school, the people, the sports, etc. What advice would you give underclassmen? Every year counts, so, don’t wait until the last minute to do something. |
