Three Syracuse City School District students had an excellent showing in the 2013 Post-Standard WCNY Spelling Bee.
Lauren Shatraw, an 8th grader at Ed Smith, made it five rounds before she was eliminated on the word “garibaldi.’’
H.W. Smith’s Joshua Lacey-Baldwin struggled in the next round with the word “placatory.’’ Emily Carello, also from H.W. Smith and last year’s champion, was eliminated in round 8 on the word “psalmody.’’
On September 26, 2012 students and teachers all across the Syracuse City School District will be opening their blinds and letting the sunshine in to celebrate Daylight Day. Please join the Green SCSD team in their efforts to boost student achievement and reduce their carbon footprint. Teachers and staff are pledging to turn off the lights on Daylight Day.
Our Family Open House is an opportunity to introduce you to our new location and to enable you to see where your children’s classrooms are located. Also that evening is Westcott Wednesday which will be held on Westcott Street, in our new school neighborhood, after the Open House. The businesses and restaurants are open late that evening as a farewell to summer.
Students, staff and area politicians were just a few of the people who participated in a groundbreaking ceremony at H.W. Smith School.
The school will be renovated over the next school year and when it reopens in September 2013 it will have six classroom additions, new plumbing and electrical systems and a new roof. The plan calls for extensive renovations to the interior of the school building as well.
