Salem Hyde Students Enjoy Nature in the City

Fowler, Nottingham Teams Compete at World Robotics Competition

Teams from Fowler and Nottingham high schools joined with 396 teams from more than 20 countries at the VEX Robotics Competition World Championship at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Fowler’s team of Tuyen Q Huynh and Tuyen Huynh finished 88th in the competition. The students had a few mechanical issues and Robert Woolery, the team’s advisor, and a science teacher at Fowler, said the duo narrowly missed finishing in the top 25.

Science Teacher Named Technology Alliance of Central New York Outstanding Teacher of the Year

The Technology Alliance of Central New York (TACNY) presented Gwen Raeford, Fowler High School science teacher with their 2012 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award at the recent Board of Education Business Meeting. The award was created in 1988 to recognize the vital role that teachers play in the preparation of future technologists.

Nottingham and Fowler VeX Robotics Teams Compete at VeX Robotics World Championships

The Fowler and Nottingham VeX Robotics Teams are competing in the VeX Robotics World Championships in Anaheim, California. Nottingham team advisor Bryan English has created a Twitter account so friends and family can follow the teams progress throughout the four days of competition.

You can follow the team's account here. There is a page set up that Mr. English will be updating every day for the remainder of the competition.

SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry Science Fair and Greater Syracuse Scholastic Science Fair Participants and Awards

Ed Smith made an unprecedented and very impressive showing at both the SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry Science Fair held on March 14, 2012 in the Carrier Dome and the Greater Syracuse Scholastic Science Fair held at the Oncenter on March 25, 2012. Our students competed against hundreds of other students throughout the district and surrounding suburbs. Their outstanding efforts lead to many awards, prizes and recognition for themselves and our community.

Bellevue Students Celebrate National Pi Day by Making Pies and Having Fun with Fractions

Bellevue Elementary School students will be making and enjoying pies this week in celebration of National pi day. Pi, which equals 3.1415926535…, represents the relationship between a circle’s diameter and its circumference. Pi Day is celebrated by math enthusiasts around the world on March 14th.

Fourth Grade Students Build Bridges at McKinley Brighton

Students in Ms. Bonner’s 4th grade class at McKinley Brighton recently engaged in a bridge building exercise. The only tools they were given to work with were gumdrops and toothpicks and a picture of different types of bridges.

Robotics Teams at Fowler

Fowler High School was proud to have 2 teams compete in two different robotics competitions: Team T-Squared and Team International. Team Internationals was comprised of Chitra Lamanchhane, Nyezee Goe and Filimon Tekle, who competed for the first time this year. Robotics Team T-Squared had an impressive showing - winning the Syracuse City Vex Robotics Competition. Team T-Squared is comprised of Fowler students Tuyen Huynh and Tuyen Q Huynh. This win also qualifies them to go to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for the SECME Championships.
