The Career Field

Medical assistants work to make life easier for both doctors and patients. They are trained in both clinical (sterilizing equipment, drawing blood, conducting basic tests, etc...) and administrative (scheduling appointments, updating records, filling out insurance forms, etc...) procedures. These professionals usually work in hospitals, doctors' offices and clinics.

Employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 16 percent from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations.

The Program

The Medical Assisting pathway is offered for any student interested in obtaining a Medical Assistant Certification upon graduation from high school. The program provides information and skills common to all medical assistants, including the ability to:

  • Take a patient's history
  • Prepare an examination room
  • Assist physicians during examinations
