Early Childhood Program Descriptions

UPK Classrooms in SCSD

  • Students: (18) 3 and 4 year old children in a full day program
  • Staff:1 certified teacher and 1 certified teaching assistant
     

UPK Classrooms in Contracting Community Agencies

  • Students:(18) 3 and 4 year old children in a full or half day program as approved within the agency’s contract
  • Staff:1 certified teacher and 1 certified teaching assistant/aide for every 18 children
     

Special Education Itinerant Services-Inclusion Classroom – (SEIS)

  • Students: (18) 3 or 4 year old children in a full day program
  • Out of the 18 children, 5 are children with IEPs who are identified for this program through the Committee on Pre-School Special Education (CPSE).
  • Staff:1 certified teacher and 1 certified teaching assistant in each classroom; and in addition, 1 special education resource teacher (caseload of 20) and 1 special education teaching assistant who travel between the classrooms to support the needs of the identified children within the regular classroom setting
     

Special Class Integrated Setting Classroom – (SCIS)

  • Students: (18) 3 and 4 year old children in a half day or full day program
  • Out of the 18 children, 6 are children with IEPs who are identified for this program through the Committee on Special Education (CPSE).
  • Staff: 1 certified teacher and 1 certified teaching assistant in each classroom; and in addition, 2 special special education teaching assistants to support the needs of the identified children within the regular classroom setting
     

Itinerant Educational Services

  • Students: 3 and 4 year old children enrolled in any of the above pre-school classroom models
  • Staff: Speech/language pathologist; special education resource teacher; occupational therapist; physical therapist; or school social worker who provide services within their respective disciplines as identified on a child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) by the Committee on Special Education (CPSE).
  • Pre-School Evaluation Provider
    Students:(1) individual pre-school child educational evaluation, at the Pre-K Office (evaluation room), in the home or in a pre-school/childcare setting as determined by the parent/guardian
  • Staff:(1) school psychologist in conjunction with:  school nurse; school social worker; speech/language pathologist; occupational therapist; and physical therapist provide a comprehensive, multidisciplinary educational evaluation in accordance with SED and Onondaga County regulations.
