The Career Field

The Earth is more than just the ground underneath us; it's our greatest natural resource. Natural resource professionals use their knowledge of the natural sciences to protect the environment and human health and make connections between the natural world and the human population.

Employment in this field is projected to grow 11 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations.

The Program

The program develops an integrated view of the biological, ecological and social dimensions of the environment. In addition to academic course work, students have the opportunity to learn about careers through guest lectures and field trips to businesses, industry and government agency partners as well as participating in many field work and citizen science projects. Students enrolled in this pathway will acquire a variety of skills including:

  • Planning and design
  • Conservation management and environmental health
  • Bioprocess engineering, chemistry, land surveying, and park maintenance
  • Ecology and population studies
  • Wildlife and Plant ID and conservation studies
