Safety Concern Protocol

Safety Concern Protocol

We value the safety of all our students in the Syracuse City School District. If you are concerned about the safety of your child at their school, please follow the steps below to create a safe environment for your child.

To learn more about the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), click here!

Steps must be followed in this order

  1. Notify your child’s administrator of safety concern
  2. Contact school’s DASA Coordinator (see the list below for DASA Coordinators by school building)
  3. If necessary, complete DASA form. This is also located on the district website by following the steps below:
    1. Enter the Syracuse City School District homepage in the search bar
    2. Under Students & Families, hover over Student Support Services; click the DASA link
    3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and under “Links” click DASA complaint form
  4. School will engage in a DASA investigation within 48 hours
  5. Student must remain in school during the investigation:
    1. Family will receive notification of the findings of the DASA investigation upon completion
    2. A safety plan will be created with the family and administration to ensure continued school attendance of the student
  6. Based on the DASA investigation findings, safety plan will be adjusted and monitored
  7. The plan will be monitored on a weekly basis with the DASA coordinator(s), student and families.
    1. If it is determined that student must be brought to the safety committee by the Office of Student Support Services, the family will be notified of the committee’s decision.
