Required Emergency Drills 2026-27
SCSD Families,
New York State requires schools to practice what to do during an emergency. These practices help students and staff know how to stay safe.
Each school must hold 12 emergency drills each year which includes 8 fire drills and 4 lockdown drills. Our drills will begin on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. For safety reasons, we will not share the exact dates and times of individual drill. When a drill begins, students and staff will be told that it is a practice drill.
Each classroom and common area has Standard Response Protocol posters that explain what students and staff should do during an emergency.
School staff will also talk with students before drills begin. They will explain what to expect and answer students' questions.
We encourage families to talk with their children about the importance of these drills. Practicing helps everyone know what to do and helps keep our schools safe.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact the SCSD Department of Public Safety at (315) 435-4527.
Thank you for your continued support of school safety.
