About Food & Nutrition

One of the most important ways we can help our children perform better academically is to provide them with the nutrition necessary for the healthy growth of their minds and bodies. Our Breakfast, Lunch, Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program, Supper, and Snack menus are designed to offer a variety of appealing and healthy food options for our students. Menus meet or exceed the regulations outlined in the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.

Thanks to the Community Eligibility Provision, an agreement with the New York State Department of Education Child Nutrition Administration, all students in Syracuse City schools receive free breakfast and lunch each day. On a daily basis, we serve more than 9,500 breakfasts and 11,500 lunches. An additional 1,500 suppers are provided each day to students in after school programs and high school sports teams. Our farm to school program and participation in the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program at select SCSD schools help ensure that our students are receiving fresh and nutritious meals!
