Urban Teacher Preparation Program

The Career Field:
Experts predict a need to fill 100,000 teaching positions across the country beginning in 2018 and continuing for years after that. Urban school districts will be among the areas with the most jobs available. Whether it's identifying and meeting the individual educational needs of a multi-cultural, economically diverse student population, building supportive relationships with students and families, or teaching and advocating for social and economic justice, the urban educator's job is a challenging but highly rewarding career choice.
The Program:
The Urban Teacher Prep Pathway at Corcoran provides students with the opportunity to prepare for a career in urban education and earn no-cost transferable college credits. Students in the program will learn about and practice the unique skills required to be a successful educator in a diverse urban environment. They will develop an understanding of teaching and learning through hands-on lessons, work-based experiences, and specialized coursework.
Students in this program can earn their NYS TA certification and enter the SCSD Career Ladder program, which will provide the structure and support to become a teacher at SCSD.

- No-cost, college credits transferable to two or four year degree programs
- NYS Regents Diploma or a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation
