School social workers can help connect you and your child to in school and/or out of school supports that meet your needs. PSLA at Fowler Students Celebrate Their Heritage through Latina Mentoring Initiative:
It all started on October 21, 2021 – Latina Equal Pay Day. That’s when Governor Kathy Hochul announced the launch of the Latina Mentoring Initiative, a program that would be enacted in schools throughout New York State, to help support young Latinas and begin leveling the playing field.

SCSD High School Students Enjoy Syracuse Opera Performances:
Music students from all SCSD high schools recently enjoyed a unique fine arts experience: an opera performance live in their own school building!
Thanks to a partnership between Syracuse Opera, WCNY and CNY Arts, the Syracuse Opera performed ‘No Cowards in Our Band,’ an opera based on the life and work of runaway slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. The goal? To introduce high school students to opera while educating them about history, equity and inclusion.

SCSD Students Recognized Among Syracuse.com ‘Best and Brightest’:
Congratulations to PSLA at Fowler student Benedicte Owanga and ITC student Isaiah Goodrich – they have been selected as Syracuse.com’s Best and Brightest students of 2022! The Best and Brightest award recognizes the accomplishments of Central New York seniors who have at least a 3.0 grade point average and who have exceptional academic successes, extracurricular activity, and service to their school and community. Flowers – and Students – Bloom in PSLA at Fowler’s School Greenhouse:
For four days a week, Dave Sawyer spends his mornings in the garden he has been carefully cultivating for several years.
Then, right on schedule, the teenagers arrive.
For several hours each day, Mr. Sawyer shares his love of gardening with PSLA at Fowler student volunteers in their school greenhouse, which he helped create in what had previously been a science classroom, then storage room.
