Syracuse City School District STEAM School Announces New Partnership with Gearhead Rentals

The Syracuse City School District’s STEAM High School is pleased to announce that Upstate New York’s longest operating and most trusted filming equipment rental house, Gearhead Rentals will be partnering with the program beginning in the spring of 2022.

The partnership will help ensure modern and currently relevant equipment in the industry will be featured in training some of our most promising youth talent in the region.

In 2021, Gearhead hired Syracuse native Ryan Lynch to lead the expansion into the Syracuse region with the goal of not just working in the community, but also working with the community.

“I sincerely wish programs like this existed when I was going through high school to put me on the fast track in the production world,” Lynch said. “We are truly honored to have been asked to participate in this effort. I believe we have an incredible opportunity and responsibility to train our youth and have a renaissance of production talent generated right here in our community.”

The Gearhead name can be found in the credits of every film and production shot in the Upstate New York area. The company specializes in all avenues of production including camera, grip, lighting, electric, expendables, and live event production supplies.

“It’s such amazing news that Ryan and the team at Gearhead will be joining us as part of the development of the curriculum at the STEAM School project and the Syracuse City School District,” Syracuse Film Commissioner Eric Vinal said. “Their expertise and reputation with both prove to be valuable assets to the students and community. We look forward to working with Gearhead and the district for many years to come!”

Gearhead, a Rochester based company, has plans to open a permanent production gear and supplies location in Syracuse to mirror the energy of the growing demand for quality equipment in the area. Learn more about the company at
