NYSED Guidance Regarding June 2020 Regents Exams

The New York State Board of Regents and the State Education Department announced this week the cancellation of June 2020 Regents exams.

According to the New York State Department of Education, all students currently enrolled in grades 7-12 who were intending to participate in a Regents exam this June are eligible for an exemption from the exam(s) that would have been required for their coursework. For graduating seniors specifically, the State Education Department has also changed the graduation requirement for the Class of 2020 as it relates to Regents exams.

To receive a NYS Diploma without sitting for a Regents exam this June, a student must be currently enrolled in a course that would have culminated in a Regents exam. If the student passes the Regents-level course and receives course credit, he or she will be exempt from the Regents exam. If a student fails the Regents-level course and does not receive course credit, the student must enroll in summer instruction to make up the failed course, and then would be granted diploma credit in August 2020.

The SCSD previously shared that March 6, 2020 is the ending date for the third marking period.  Students have until April 10 to submit any work that was assigned prior to March 6.  If your child has any questions about any assignments from the third marking period, please have them contact their teacher or call their building principal. For students who may need additional time to complete and submit work, teachers can enter an Incomplete (I) to allow more time for work to be done in these uncertain times.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the SCSD Department of Teaching and Learning at (315) 435-5844. You may also be interested in viewing the FAQ document provided by NYSED.

We appreciate your ongoing understanding and support as we do our best to keep you informed in these changing circumstances.
