A Welcome Back Letter from Superintendent Davis

Dear Families,

Here in the SCSD, our students of all ages spent their summer engaged in innovative summer learning programs combining both enrichment and academics! Elementary students visited a local golf course for lessons through the First Tee program; English as a New Language students were introduced to the SCSD through a new Institute for Language and Culture; middle and high school students helped improve their schools and the greater community through service projects as part of the Bea Gonzalez Fellows program; and much, much more. This is all in addition to the great academic learning offered in our buildings! I’m so proud of all of the students who chose to spend their summer improving their skills and readying themselves for the new year.

The first day of the new school year will begin for all elementary school, middle school, and 9th and 10th grade students on Wednesday, September 6th. The first day of school for 11th and 12th grade students will be on Thursday, September 7th. The District is again providing school supplies for all students, which will be available in schools on the first day.

To ensure that we can contact you quickly in the event of an emergency, please return your child’s Emergency/Information Card to the school’s main office on the first day of school. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, I encourage you to contact me via Let’s Talk by visiting www.syracusecityschools.com/LetsTalk.

Finally, your child’s attendance is critical… when they are healthy, we need them to be in school, on time, so we can help them grow and learn. If there’s anything we can do to help remove barriers to your child’s attendance, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are all in this together – Kids First.

We look forward to welcoming your children back for a great year!

Sincerely,

Anthony Q. Davis
