Syracuse University Enrichment is entering its third year as a school-based program dedicated to educating the whole child. Located at Dr. Weeks Elementary School, the program is fully integrated into the daily schedule and employs 12 teachers to work in the classrooms. This structure is then built into a unified school framework that upholds one culture, one climate and one community to support the education of each child, every day.
The program is specifically designed to operate within a longer school day and provides students with the unique opportunity to experience learning through an interactive, hands-on approach to the Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. The NGSS is divided into 4 units across the year and the content is aligned from grade level to grade level. This approach purposefully expands and supports the classroom curriculum. It intentionally implements Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math concepts to connect ideas, methodologies and skills. Similarly, it employs experiential learning to engage higher level thinking skills and teach to the ‘whole child.’
Our Enrichment Program is committed to providing each child with an ‘enriched curriculum’ that identifies new and different experiences designed to fill the learning gap, level the playing field and provide a pathway to college for the students of the Dr. Weeks community.
“At first people refuse to believe that a strange new thing can be done. Then they begin to hope it can be done Then they see it can be done and all the world wonders why it was not done centuries ago”.
