Syracuse University Enrichment Combines Art, Science to Make Learning Fun at Dr. Weeks: Thanks to daily enrichment arranged by Syracuse University, Dr. Weeks students experience fun and unique ways to learn about art and science—for an hour each day.   Eleven SCSD schools – including Dr. Weeks—currently take part in Extended Learning Time (ELT) enrichment. Through ELT, students take part in enrichment activities led by community partners like Catholic Charities, Peaceful Schools, Redhouse and Syracuse University. Improvement in SCSD Schools Recognized by NYS: The State Education Department recently released performance data for SCSD schools in receivership. The data, from the 2015-16 school year, showed all 9 of our receivership schools making Demonstrable Improvement. Notable highlights vary by school but include things like an increase in standardized test performance, decrease in the number of suspensions, increase in graduation rate, drop in the number of serious incidents and more.   Overall, SCSD schools met or exceeded 69 percent of ... more >>

Summer Academy at Dr. Weeks: This summer at Dr. Weeks was a busy one! Our Summer Academy began on July 5 th and went right through August 2 nd . The students had fun in so many different activities!   Mrs. Farwell’s and Mr. Ibarra’s class raised chickens and learned about early photography. Using a camera obscura the students documented the growth of their chickens and butterflies with their increasing knowledge of the pin hole camera.
