OCC Partnership Expands Into Three SCSD Schools: In the 2016-17 school year, Onondaga Community College announced a partnership with McKinley-Brighton Elementary. OCC staff visited the school to help students make journals, create spin art to learn about centripetal force, create personal superheroes that are now on display in the new OCC Coulier Library and more. Boys Academy Helps McKinley-Brighton Students Develop Character: Each morning, third through fifth grade boys at McKinley-Brighton break out by grade level to meet with Vice Principal Eric Patterson for a few minutes for a short lesson in character building. SCSD Students Become Avid Readers Thanks to Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge: As part of the Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge, SCSD students were tasked with reading as much as they could this summer. McKinley-Brighton Students Improve Literacy, Flexibility with Mindfulness Grant: Last year, select fourth graders at McKinley-Brighton received a set of yoga mats and enjoyed six weeks of yoga lessons – thanks to a  SCSD Education Foundation grant. Data Coaches Help SCSD Schools Improve Student Outcomes: Among the entire SCSD, Danforth Middle School saw the most reductions in chronic absences and office referrals in the first half of the 2016-17 school year.
