Welcome

Welcome to the Fine Arts page of the Syracuse City School District!

The curricular Fine Arts programs include both the visual and performing arts.

The SCSD Visual Arts department offers classes in all schools. The visual arts program follows a district-adopted Pre-K through grade 12 curriculum. The high school level curriculum offers a variety of courses in 2D and 3D art, as well as opportunities to take college-level courses through Syracuse University. Many of our schools participate in regional Scholastic Art Awards competitions, the Community Folk Art Center Teenage Art Competition, displays at the Everson Museum of Art, and the annual Feats of Clay Festival. In addition, many schools host their own building arts festivals and provide exhibitions throughout the community.

Performing arts in the SCSD encompass the dramatic and musical arts.  Drama courses are offered at the high school level.  District drama students continue to receive awards, scholarships, and high honors at the Harms Festival and a variety of other venues.

The SCSD music department offers general, choral, and instrumental (band and orchestra) music opportunities to all students enrolled in our schools. At the high school level, we offer specialized courses including theory and composition. District music students regularly perform in city-wide, county, and state festivals and other events.

The co-curricular Fine Arts programs offer students extended opportunities to perform and exhibit outside the school day as well as affording them opportunities to interact with the community.  These opportunities include specialized art grants and partnerships, plays, musicals, jazz ensembles, percussion ensembles, and dance teams, as well as our All District Musical, All City Instrumental and Choral Festivals.

Our programs are also enriched through partnerships with agencies in the community such as the Everson Museum of Art, the Community Folk Art Center, Onondaga Community College, the Open Hand Theater, the Redhouse Arts Center, Syracuse Stage and Syracuse University.

Please remember to click on the Fine Arts Calendar link often to keep up with our talented students.  We hope to see you at many of the SCSD concerts, shows, and exhibits throughout the year!
