NSBE Students Win Awards at Regional Competition

SCSD middle and high school students from across the district traveled to Long Island, NY to attend the National Society Black Engineers (NSBE) Conference and to compete in the regional high school and middle school math competitions. The conference also offered many engaging leadership and hands-on science and engineering activities. Students attended workshops that will help to prepare them for the Science Fair and NASCAR TEN80 competitions they will be facing at the national NSBE convention in March. Congratulations to all of our participating students for displaying excellent academic skills and exemplary behavior.
Cusetown took first place in the grade 7 and 8 math division:
Myles Cherebin (H.W. Smith)
Chantay Morales (Westside Academy at Blodgett)
Alex Phan and Andru Skinle (Frazer)
Syracuse Thunder took first place in the grade 9 and 10 division:
Uniyah Chapman, Jamon Martin and Zach Reid (Corcoran)
Tyrick Mayo (ITC)
Yanira Johnson (Nottingham)
Team United took third place in the grade 9 and 10 division:
Isaiah Ginty (Corcoran)
Zach Mayo and Nazir Muhammad (ITC)
Kamille Davis and Nasheett Usman (Nottingham)
Thinking C.A.P. took first place in the grade 11 and 12 division:
Ilean Curry, Brandi Fowler, Majestic Ross and Armondo Shanes (Corcoran)
Alec Harris (Nottingham)
Also participating in the middle school math competition was team Spirit composed of Brianna Brown (Roberts K-8); Lavaisha Rouse and Quantenette Torrance (Danforth).
In addition to the team competitions there were individual competition scores as well:
Alex Phan (Frazer) won first place
Myles Cherebin (HW Smith) and Chantay Morales (WSA at Blodgett) tied for second.
