This is a photo of a female graduate posing in her graduation cap and gown.Summer vacation is officially here! Thank you for doing your part to help contribute to the success of our students, our schools and our district this past school year.

It was great to see the end-of-year celebrations and special events taking place at many of our schools this week. At Bellevue, staff hosted a special breakfast event to show appreciation for bus drivers and bus attendants. At Dr. Weeks, students each received a summer toy to bring home, thanks to a donation from Bankers Healthcare Group. Delaware fifth graders enjoyed free haircuts at 4th Quarter Barbershop before their moving up ceremony; and at Van Duyn, each student got at least two new books to bring home to help them stay active readers over summer vacation.

In our final #SCSDLookBack video of the school year, don’t miss Lincoln students visiting Seabreeze, Roberts students exploring at Baltimore Woods, Huntington students visiting NYC, Olympic games at Danforth, a first grade picnic at Franklin, ELMS students visiting Mercy Mountain and Green Lakes, Frazer students visiting Destiny USA, a Donuts for Dads celebration at Van Duyn and so much more.

This weekend, I encourage you to support our Class of 2018 as they celebrate their #SCSDGraduation! All ceremonies will take place at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College. Stop by to support our scholars from Henninger (10 am Saturday), ITC (1 pm Saturday), Corcoran (4 pm Saturday), PSLA at Fowler (2 pm Sunday) and Nottingham (4:15 pm Sunday).

This week a group of Nottingham students welcomed Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul to their school as they demonstrated their stance against gun violence. Junior Ana Kreidler-Siwinski did a wonderful job representing her fellow students and the district as she spoke passionately about the issue both nationally and here locally in our community.

Finally, if you’re a part of our summer school programming this year, be sure to share your good news photos with us on Twitter by tagging @SyracuseSchools and using #SCSDSummerLearning. Stay tuned later this summer as we create a video to highlight the hard work of our students and staff even in the summer months.

Until then, enjoy a refreshing and relaxing summer! You deserve it.

Sincerely,
Jaime
