Superintendent's Message - 12/7/18

Our Department of Fine Arts received a special gift to start the week: a donation of more than $3,000 from Terakeet! The money will be used to purchase musical instruments for students. In addition to a check, Terakeet staff also donated two guitars, a trumpet, a flute and a clarinet to Clary Middle School for student use. We appreciate the generosity of Terakeet and all who contributed to support #SCSDArts!

On Thursday, thanks to the Wladis Law Firm, students across the SCSD received winter hats and gloves through the annual Wladis Hat and Glove Giveaway! I visited Webster as students received their new items, and the scholars were over the moon about having their own new hats and gloves to help keep them warm this winter. We have much to be thankful for this holiday season in the SCSD, and the support of the Wladis family, community members and local businesses on this initiative through the years (22 and counting!) continues to be a blessing.

This week’s #SCSDLookBack video features the PSLA at Fowler performance of “Freaky Friday,” Meachem and Syracuse Latin students learning about circuits, station rotations at Westside Academy at Blodgett, teachers working on a Personalized Learning Design Challenge, Danforth students practicing their cooking skills, a poetry slam at Grant, a concert and Honor Society celebrations at Huntington, PSLA at Fowler students of the month and more. I look forward to continuing to see your photos this month as you share the ways #SCSDCelebrates the season in your buildings and classrooms!

Finally, tonight and tomorrow, don’t miss your chance to support #SCSDAthletics, as our Corcoran, Henninger, ITC, Nottingham and PSLA at Fowler boys basketball teams compete in the annual basketball invitational! The games will take place at Corcoran High School – follow this link for a detailed schedule.

Sincerely,
Jaime
