Superintendent's Message 3/22/19

This week, Westside Academy at Blodgett and Corcoran hosted Multicultural Festivals. It’s always great to see our schools celebrating our #SCSDDiversity and giving our students the opportunity to share their heritage and traditions!

As you may know, March is Music in Our Schools Month – a great opportunity to celebrate the contribution that music makes to students’ development. This morning, Meachem students celebrated Community Musicians Day by welcoming musicians from throughout the community to classrooms to share their instrument and musical story with students. Thank you to Meachem music teacher Holly McCoy for organizing this event and to Sarah Gentile, Supervisor of Fine Arts, for supporting a robust art and music program in the SCSD.

The latest #SCSDLookBack video features Salem Hyde students playing homemade musical instruments, ELMS students teaching each other about the history of Onondaga Lake, ELMS students interviewing veterans, Roberts students visiting the Corcoran ropes course, a career fair at ITC, Dr. King students learning about maple syrup, Salem Hyde staff supporting Down Syndrome Day and more.

This weekend, two of our middle schools will be performing their school musicals, and I hope you’ll consider attending. Ed Smith students will perform Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tonight at 7 pm; and Clary and ELMS students will perform Alice in Wonderland, Jr. tonight at 7 pm and tomorrow at 2 pm! Tomorrow, I will be taking part in the Heart Walk, benefitting the American Heart Association of Central New York. I hope some of you will stop out to join me in supporting this important cause – it will kick off at 8 am at SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College.

Sincerely,
Jaime
