SCSD Vex Robotics Teams Stand Out Regional Competition

Students from the SCSD’s robotics programs participated in the latest CNY Regional match-up at the MOST and did very well.  They competed against their peers in the engineering challenge called Toss Up where they used the Vex Robotics Design System to build robots to play the game.

In Toss Up, the students must design and program a robot that can navigate obstacles in the playing field while tossing large balls and BuckyBalls into scoring zones and goals. Teams had a one-minute autonomous period and a one-minute driver-controlled period to score as many points as possible.

The top 16 teams from Saturday’s competition have advanced to the Northern New York Vex Toss up State Championship.  This event is scheduled for January 25 at SRC Arena on the OCC Campus.

Winners from the Syracuse City School District who will definitely be advancing included: Institute of Technology Team B, Edward Smith School Team A, Fowler High School T-Squared Reborn, Nottingham High School Team 1, Corcoran High School Team A and Fraser K-8 School Fraser Boys.

The Institute of Technology Team B was also named as one of three Tournament Champions while Fowler High School T-Squared Reborn and Edward Smith School Team A were Tournament Finalists.  Nottingham High School Team 1 was the Robot Skills Winner and took home the Design Award.

Congratulations to all of our young engineers who participated.
