Superintendent's Message 10/11/19

Our building leaders engaged in training this week at Leadership Academies. In case you missed it, two of our principals were featured this week – their students shared what they think makes Principal Nieves (Seymour) and Principal Brumfield (Frazer) exceptional! Keep an eye on our social media channels this month for additional principal features as we continue to celebrate National Principal Month.

Mayor Walsh joined our ELMS students this Thursday to plant trees on the school grounds in celebration of Arbor Day. It’s great to see our students taking on #GreenSCSD projects like this that help students become #SCSDCivicReady and help them see the value of nature and local ecosystems. Also on Thursday, I was pleased to visit STEAM at Dr. King, where students, staff and local community members celebrated CNY Central reporter Laura Hand’s retirement. Laura has been reading to students at Dr. King – and throughout the SCSD – throughout her decades-long career, and we wish her well in her next steps!

This week’s #SCSDLookBack video features HW Smith scholars working on their reading and math stamina, Huntington students being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society, ITC students working with their career coaches, Lincoln students participating in a STEM challenge, Webster students writing kindness notes to their peers, CTE students attending Construction Careers Day and more. Remember to share your photos with us on Twitter by tagging @SyracuseSchools or using #SCSDSuccess – and if you’re doing something in your school or classroom that you’d like to see featured, feel free to email goodnews@scsd.us so we can follow up.

The SCSD is closed on Monday – I hope you enjoy a restful long weekend and return to work on Tuesday ready for a great new week!

Sincerely,
Jaime
