This weekend, 17 teams from the Syracuse City School District participated in the Northern New York State VEX Toss Up State Championship held at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College.  Teams consisted of students from Corcoran, Fowler, Nottingham, ITC, Frazer, Ed Smith, HW Smith, and Grant.

Out of the 17 SCSD teams participating, eight qualified to make it into the elimination quarterfinal rounds.   The two teams from Corcoran - Cougar Robotics (Ryan Brown, Mara Nunez and Mark Rowlands) and Skynet (Colleen Brogan, Matt O’Neill and Dominic Serrao) teamed up in the quarterfinals and lost two very close matches to be eliminated by the tournament champions from Oswego.  Team Skynet was also in a very close race for the Excellence Award of the Tournament.  Team H.A.L. from Nottingham made into the semi-finals, where they lost in the third match in a best out of three competition.  Team H.A.L received the Design Award for the competition.   T-Squared Reborn (Sang Huyn and Phuc Vu) from Fowler worked hard with their alliance to make it into the Finals of the State Championship, where they lost two very close matches in a best of three competition. Each match was decided by less than 10 points.

Congratulations to all of the teams that participated in this weekend's tournament.  Your sportsmanship, handwork, design ideas and building skills are truly something to be proud of.
