Dear Syracuse City School District Families and Staff,

Today we conducted our second day of yellow zone testing with the support of Onondaga County and the City of Syracuse.  We tested 761 students and staff at eight schools and we had just one positive result.  The positive result in this case was a staff member who was tested at Seymour.  Thank you again to everyone who helped organize today’s testing and who took the time to get tested.

Unrelated to our testing today, we were notified by the Onondaga County Health Department that we did have five additional staff members and eight students test positive for COVID-19.  The staff are from Lincoln, PSLA, Delaware, HW Smith and Oasis.   The Oasis staff member was last in school on November 14th, the PSLA staff member was last in school on November 10th, the Delaware staff member was last in school on November 16th, the HW Smith staff member was last in school on November 17th and the Lincoln staff member was last in school on November 13th.

Seven of the eight students are virtual learners and have not been in school this year.  The eighth student attends Syracuse Latin and was last in school on November 13th.

The Onondaga County Health Department will be in touch with those, both staff members and students who they believe may have been exposed to the individuals testing positive.

Please remember to wear your mask, stay socially distanced and wash your hands.  Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep you informed and up to date.

Sincerely,

Jaime Alicea
Superintendent of Schools
