Schools Under Receivership

Each year, the New York State Education Department studies information about the performance of each public school and assigns it an accountability status. This year several schools in the Syracuse City School District have been designated as “struggling schools,” which also places them under state receivership requirements.  “Struggling” schools have been among the lowest achieving public schools for more than five years.

The following schools have been placed under SED mandated receivership:
  • Danforth Middle School
  • Delaware Academy
  • Dr. King Elementary School
  • Dr. Weeks Elementary School
  • Fowler High School
  • Frazer Pre-K-8 School
  • Henninger High School
  • Lincoln Middle School
  • Westside Academy at Blodgett

Despite the best efforts of the students and staff, these schools have not made sufficient progress.  Specific actions will now have to be taken to improve the school’s performance within two years or an independent receiver may be appointed.

Please see below for information regarding the public hearing that has been scheduled for your child’s school. Attending this meeting will help you better understand how the receivership will impact the operation of your child’s school and will allow you to ask any questions you may have.
