Community-Wide Halloween Celebration Offers Safe Halloween Fun for Families

The Syracuse Community is coming together to provide a safe and fun Halloween/Harvest Festival for school-aged children in Syracuse, as well as their families. The event, called "Syracuse October 31st," will take place at several neighborhood-based community centers and five Syracuse City School District schools from 4 - 7 pm on Saturday, October 31st. Each site will offer a variety of activities including dancing, a costume contest, sports, arts & crafts, Halloween treats and more. At the SCSD sites, Parent University classes will be offered for parents.

The sites are:

Barnabas Center - 1941 S. Salina Street
Boys & Girls Club - East - 2100 E. Fayette Street
Delaware School - 900 S. Geddes Street
Dr. King School - 416 E. Raynor Avenue
Edward Smith Elementary School - Lancaster Ave & Broad Street
Franklin School - 428 S. Alvord Street
McKinley-Brighton School - 141 W. Newell Street
Northeast Community Center - 716 Hawley Avenue
Southwest Community Center - 401 South Avenue

Community members are encouraged to volunteer their time, candy or food and prizes. To assist, please contact or call Kiva VanDerGeest at (315) 671-5815. Donations can be dropped off at any of the sites above, at the United Way of Central New York (518 James Street) or at the Syracuse Teachers Association (731 James Street).
