Kindergarten through second graders at Syracuse Latin worked together to raise just over $3,000 for the American Heart Association through a Jump Rope and Hoops for the Heart program!
“We’re raising money for the Heart Association by jump roping,” second grade student Meriem Saka explained. “We’re doing it so it will help us exercise and stay healthy and do something good for our hearts. I feel good that we’re helping!”
Students collected donations leading up to the heart-healthy event, and then headed to the school gym, accompanied by several parent volunteers. Led by PE teachers Courtney King and Meghan Goodness, they had fun with hula hoops, jump ropes, playing basketball, cup stacking and more. After they finished, they snacked on heart-healthy apples from Wegmans!
Each morning leading up to the event, students learned a new heart fact.
“The event taught our students about the importance of developing heart-healthy habits and that being physically active can be fun,” Ms. Goodness explained. “We are so proud of our students for being fabulous heart heroes!”
Thank you to our Syracuse Latin scholars for their generosity in supporting such a good cause.
