Seventh graders at ELMS hosted the school’s second annual Day of Peace, a culminating event to show their year-long efforts to make the community a better, more peaceful place.
Their year-long expedition, “A Quest for Change,” challenged students to examine why people seek change, why people are willing to make sacrifices for change, how variables influence the quest for change and why some people lead while others follow. Their efforts included students interviewing peace makers in the community, science experiments that would create change or solve problems, researching violence statistics in Syracuse, creating robots to help with issues in the community, creating documentary films about peace makers in Syracuse history and more.
At the Day of Peace event, students invited families and community members to a celebration where they demonstrated the results of their projects. Guests enjoyed food, games and arts and crafts and wrapped up the evening by creating a giant human peace sign at the school’s field. Congratulations to these students for making an effort to bring about positive change in the Syracuse community and beyond!
