Superintendent's Message to Staff - October 7

As we wrap up another exciting week, I encourage you to take three minutes to watch this week’s #SCSDLookBack video, featuring content submitted by staff and community members of exciting things happening in our schools over the past week. This week’s video features the 2016 Say Yes to Education Gala, Syracuse firefighters reading to our elementary students, spirit week at schools across the District, blended learning at Huntington, collaborative learning at ITC, 5th graders visiting Baltimore Woods Nature Center, open houses, PTO meetings, SyraFuse professional development and more. As you have good news happening, please share your photos with us on Twitter (@SyracuseSchools)!

I want to highlight one piece of good news in particular: this week, McKinley-Brighton Elementary hosted their 6th annual Walk to School Day! Students in all grades learned about safe routes to and from school, as well as the benefits of physical activity. Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler kicked off the event with a pep rally, and then students walked to McKinley Park and back, with older students paired with younger students. This was a great way to get our students active while creating a strong sense of community and instilling in our students safe habits.

Finally, in case you missed it, I also wanted to draw your attention to a Syracuse.com article about Nottingham student athlete Diamond Weah. Diamond demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship during a recent soccer game against West Genesee and is just one example of the many upstanding students we have representing our district.

Enjoy the beautiful fall weather and have a nice weekend!

Sincerely,

Jaime
