Superintendent's Message to Staff - October 28

Danforth Technology Teacher Joe Dottolo helped his students Go for the Gold in a unique way this week, as he led his CCamp students in a weather balloon launch! In partnership with O’Brien and Gere, the CCamp students had the opportunity to send the weather balloon more than 100,000 feet into space to collect weather data that they will soon analyze in science class. I love hearing about great, hands-on lessons like this.

Staff were also actively learning together this week, taking part in an Opportunity Culture panel on Thursday evening, as well as the first Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Council meeting of the year and a successful Saturday Academy. Our staff are the foundation for the progress our students will make, and I appreciate the passion that each of you bring to your job each day. Parents also took the time to attend the CNY Parent Conference last Saturday expanding their own knowledge and finding out how to become more active in their child’s education.

This weekend, please take advantage of several opportunities to support our students as they develop their skills and interests. The 9th annual SCSD Vex Competition will be held on Saturday at Nottingham High School from 9:00AM-3:00PM and will feature more than 100 students from across CNY, including students from Corcoran, Nottingham, Fowler/PSLA and HW Smith. Nottingham’s Meadowbrook Harlequins are performing their fall play, The Crucible, on Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. If you are up for some fall sports, don’t miss Corcoran football as they travel to take on C-NS tonight at 5 pm.

As we prepare for Halloween on Monday, I am proud to report that thanks to your generosity, the SCSD has donated 1,200 bags of candy to the Southwest and Northeast Community Centers to be distributed at their Community-Wide Halloween Celebrations. Job well done!

Finally, don’t forget to wrap up the week watching our #SCSDLookBack video, featuring the SCSD College Fair and more. Another great week lies ahead!
