Superintendent's Message to Staff - December 9

Published on 12/15/16   Tagged under:    Superintendent

This week, I really started to feel the holiday spirit spreading throughout the District!

On Wednesday, Carrier graciously hosted their 26th annual Holiday Party for Seymour students. The kindergarten students – and a few first graders – were overjoyed to take part in the celebration, and each student received a gift from Santa before they returned to school. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and it was all thanks to the generous Carrier employees that we all experienced this magical holiday memory.

Also on Wednesday, students across the District received hats and gloves, courtesy of the annual Wladis Hat & Glove Giveaway. This cause holds special meaning to me, as it first begun 20 years ago, when I was the principal at Seymour. What started as one man’s effort to provide 500 hats and gloves to students has expanded to a distribution of more than 11,000 this year! We are so appreciative of the Wladis Law Firm and Wladis Companies, Inc. for their generosity through the years. Thank you to the schools and individual staff who shared photos of your students with their new winter gear this week!

This week’s #SCSDLookBack video features even more excitement: Otto the Orange visiting Ed Smith students, a spelling bee at Syracuse Latin, spirit day at Dr. King, the PSLA Girls to Women group, P-TECH students visiting G.A. Braun, a food drive at Frazer, Danforth students learning to sew, a perfect attendance ceremony for Seymour staff, a Multicultural Festival at Lincoln, the Hour of Code and more. Remember to share your good news photos with us on Twitter (@SyracuseSchools) to be featured in next week’s SCSD Look Back.

Enjoy the snow this weekend, and stay safe!

Sincerely,

Jaime
