In February, Van Duyn Elementary loves to celebrate Black History Month by studying and learning about all accomplishments and contributions from African Americans. To celebrate African American authors and illustrators Van Duyn Elementary holds a African American Read In Day. During this day, community members, staff from the district, and volunteers all come in and read a picture book written by an African American to every classroom in every grade. The students loved the stories and many readers were able to connect the stories they read to topics students were studying in class. Check out the pictures of Van Duyn Student Greeters greeting their reader for the day.
