Former NFL and Syracuse University running back Joe Morris visited Henninger HS and spoke with the varsity and junior varsity football team about healthy eating.  Morris, an advocate for children’s health, discussed the importance of starting the day with a nutritious meal not only for athletic performance but for academic performance as well.

In the SCSD all students have the opportunity to begin their day with a healthy breakfast as breakfast is served for free at every school in the district.  By offering a free breakfast the SCSD is aiming to create a healthier, higher-achieving student body and a culture of wellness.  Studies show that children, especially nutritionally at-risk children, who eat breakfast at school have higher math and verbal fluency scores and perform better on standardized tests.

The event was sponsored by the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council and their Fuel Up to Play 60 campaign.
