Superintendent's Message to Staff - May 5

Published on 5/8/17   Tagged under:    Superintendent

A group of our SCSD nurses and health aides, along with Fowler & PSLA students in the NJROTC program, spent this past Saturday at the airport welcoming WWII, Korea and Vietnam veterans returning home from their Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC. The NJROTC students continued their exciting week with the program’s first-ever Change of Command Ceremony, where seniors in the program were recognized with scholarships. I am proud of our students and staff for their leadership and the many ways they are serving the community.

The grant projects funded by the SCSD Educational Foundation also continue to serve our school communities, as many of them are ongoing and culminate in the springtime. This week’s Educational Foundation featured project taught McKinley-Brighton students about yoga and mindfulness – don’t miss the great video compiled by ITC Media Communications teacher Jeff Newell and his students.

This weekend, consider supporting our PSLA and Fowler students as they perform ‘In the Heights.’ The show runs Friday and Saturday night at 7 pm and tickets can be purchased at the door for $8.

And next week, keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter accounts as we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week! We will share some special feature stories and videos featuring familiar faces. I encourage you to share your appreciation for your colleagues – be sure to tag us (@SyracuseSchools on Twitter) or use #SCSDThanksTeachers!

Finally, this week’s #SCSDLookBack video features kindness peace circles at Corcoran, peer-run Regents review sessions & College Signing Day at Fowler, dental health contest winners at Webster, a pre-assessment pep rally at Seymour, Syracuse Latin students visiting the Ithaca Science Center and more. I’m glad so many of you are sharing your good news with us on Twitter – keep tagging us @SyracuseSchools!

Sincerely,
Jaime
