As we wrap up Teacher Appreciation Week, I wanted to say an extra special thank you to all of our dedicated teachers. While we all play an important role in the SCSD, our teachers are often the ones motivating students on a daily basis and pushing them to Go for the Gold. Thank you for all you do! If you haven’t already, please take a minute to check out our special #SCSDThanksTeachers features celebrating teachers this week, including a video of teachers showing why they love their job, a video of students showing why they love their teachers and feature stories on Dana Crockett (Van Duyn), Jon Hawa (Grant) and Karen Broughton (PSLA).
Students at Clary Middle School even took the time to make a video thanking their teachers and school staff in celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week! It’s great to see students recognize the impact of the teachers in their lives.
This Wednesday, we also celebrated School Nurse Day. Our school nurses and health aides are tirelessly dedicated to caring for our students and working to help keep them healthy. Thank you for all you do!
In case you missed it, this week the Syracuse Chiefs celebrated ‘Education Day’ and students from several of our schools attended the game. Our NJROTC students at PSLA served as the Color Guard, and some Ed Smith students and their teacher were even recognized on NewsChannel 9!
I am pleased to report that on Thursday evening, we recognized our first #SCSDGraduation of the school year at the Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection ceremony at the Landmark Theatre. This year, 214 students will be graduating with the help of the program and I am so proud of their hard work. I look forward to celebrating the rest of our graduating seniors in the coming weeks.

As always, I encourage you to wrap up the week by watching our latest #SCSDLookBack video. This week’s video features Teacher Appreciation Week celebrations, Corcoran students singing at St. Daniels, HW Smith students visiting Washington DC, Grant teachers getting pied in the face for a fundraiser, PSLA/Fowler students performing their spring musical, Lincoln students visiting Binghamton University, Frazer students learning to dissect frogs, Dr. Weeks students visiting the Strong Museum of Play and more. Keep sharing your great news with us!
