Superintendent's Message to Staff - May 19

Spring finally made an appearance this week – I hope you made some time to get outside and enjoy it!

Regardless of the weather, neighborhoods surrounding Delaware Primary and Delaware Academy will soon look a little brighter, thanks to a great #SCSDGivesBack project. The Delaware Academy Student Council recently led peers in painting primed boards that will be displayed on area vacant homes, beautifying what would once be considered an eyesore in the school's "Paint the City" project through the Greater Syracuse Land Bank.

I also wanted to highlight our Henninger High School students in the Medical Assisting program who recently took part in an Internship Completion celebration at Syracuse Community Health Center. This partnership with the SCHC is helping our students become career ready and I was pleased to join in this celebration of our students’ hard work.

Sixth graders at Grant had a special #SCSDArts surprise this week as performers from Motown: The Musical stopped by. The performers answered students’ questions and even led some of them in dance lessons. One lucky student, Janet Dusabe, performed her own song and dance, winning two tickets to the performance at the Landmark Theatre! Thank you to Dr. Barbra for arranging this visit for our Grant students.

Finally, this week’s #SCSDLookBack video features a Code of Conduct forum at Fowler, Building Men ‘Rite of Passage’ Ceremonies, a P-TECH signing ceremony at ITC, Franklin students learning about recycling from OCRRA, a Hawaiian luau at Porter, Huntington team adventures, the middle school All-City track and field meet, Seymour students visiting the MOST, Hughes students visiting Orenda Springs, an honor roll celebration at Westside Academy, PSLA & Fowler students visiting Washington, DC and more. Please keep sending your good news photos so we can continue to highlight the great things happening in our buildings!

Sincerely,
Jaime
