This is a photo of students and staff holding banners to support students competing in the Special Olympics.Throughout the district, this was a week of #SCSDSuccess! On Tuesday, our middle school students from 11 SCSD schools visited the Carrier Dome for the annual SUNY-ESF Science Fair. There were more than 300 projects on display this year, and it was great to see how hard these students worked on their STEM research projects.
On Wednesday, I enjoyed meeting with middle school student leaders at Ed Smith to hear their questions, comments and suggestions for their school and our district. That evening, I was honored to serve as a ‘Celebrity Chef’ for the Hillside ‘Taste of Success’ fundraiser. Thank you to all of you who came out to try my chicken quesadillas and to those who donated to this worthy cause! I appreciate your support, and so do our students – this fundraiser directly benefits them.
We also hosted our Inaugural Special Olympics at Corcoran this week. Students in grades 4-12 from every school in the district took part in events including a softball throw, shotput (Bocce Ball), standing broad jump, 50M dash, 100M run and 200M run. The athletes all did a great job, and the support they received from their peers was inspiring.  Thank you to all of our staff who worked the event and made it the success it was.  Please stay tuned to our social media channels next week for some more photos from the event!
This week’s #SCSDLookBack video features ITC, PSLA and WSA students attending the Teen Book Festival, ELMS students visiting Orenda Springs, personalized learning at LeMoyne, a personalized learning showcase at Nottingham, a math and science festival at Salem Hyde, Syracuse Latin students visiting Elmwood Park, SRC, Inc. staff mentoring HW Smith students, fifth grade Olympics at Huntington, Webster students celebrating Red Nose Day and more.
Finally, please be reminded that SCSD schools and offices are closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Enjoy a nice long weekend with loved ones and be sure to take a moment to say ‘thank you’ to someone who serves or has served our country. We will see you back on Tuesday, May 29th for another great week.
